How Zone understands your brain.

Zone uses in-ear EEG to measure the electrical signals your brain produces, then turns them into a real-time picture of your focus, cognitive load, and mental energy. New to Zone? Start with what Zone is.

Electroencephalography, in your ears

Your neurons communicate with small electrical pulses. EEG measures the rhythm of that activity. Zone places the electrodes in the ear tips instead of on the scalp, close enough to read meaningful signal while staying invisible. The placement is not a gimmick: conformal in-ear electrodes have supported working brain-computer interfaces in peer-reviewed research.

From raw signal to focus state

Zone filters the raw EEG, separates it into the frequency bands tied to attention and rest, and models the result as your current focus state. The pipeline runs in stages. First the earbuds sample the electrical signal from each ear. Software then filters out artifacts such as blinks, jaw movement, and swallowing, which are large enough to drown out real brain activity. The cleaned signal is broken into frequency-band features, the rhythms that shift with attention and rest, and those features feed the estimates of Brain Load and Brain Energy. The estimates are personal: Zone learns your baseline over time and reads changes against it, rather than holding you to an absolute clinical scale. The five states, from In Flow to Depleted, are the human-readable output of that pipeline.

Brain Load and Brain Energy

Two measures sit underneath every state. Brain Load reflects how hard your mind is working. Brain Energy reflects how much capacity remains. Tracking both over time shows when to push and when to recover. Zone is in limited beta; you can reserve early access.

Limitations

Zone is a wellness and performance tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or monitor any medical condition. In-ear EEG reads less signal than a clinical cap, so Zone focuses on trends in your focus over time rather than precise clinical measurement.
